Sprout, The Dolomites

Proposal for international SMACH Biennale, 2023

A sculptural structure sits on a lush lawn. Evidently, it has not grown here and is from elsewhere. Nevertheless, it does not spoil the site. It rests on the ground very lightly, barely touching it – a temporary visitor. When the time comes to leave, it will have left no mark. Observational and centrifugal, the structure overlooks the surrounding spiky mountains, which are echoed in its upward, sharp angles and its materiality. But simultaneously, it focuses inward, encompassing a space within. Both introverted and extroverted, it is like a bud.
