The subject of this competition was a late-modernist lake pavilion in a national park, and the challenge was to make it accessible by foot, and also to add significant dining and storage spaces, while preserving the character of the elegant – albeit derelict – 1960's structure. This I attempted through a structural reinterpretation of the pavilion's 'ship' image, as well as by introducing a new 'harbor' pier to it, which was inspired by the timber scaffolding used originally to erect the pavilion at the time.
